On a competely different note... The kick (and various other drum sound) tutorials in the "Logic Studio Instruments and Effects" manual's Ultrabeat section is a great primer for creating all sorts of tasty drum sounds and once followed through can really help when programming drum sounds in the ES2 or any other synth for that matter... Not to say I wouldn't love to see Steve H's approach, but is another great source of info. I have been dialing in drum sounds for quite a bit of time and I feel that little bit of manual could help expand anyone's palette.

I will just state that the MOTU interfaces are a great deal for the money and I still use my 828 for a second recording space. The main issue with the MOTU stuff though is the clock which does have a relatively high jitter in comparison to the RME and Apogee stuff. If you do have budget concerns on the higher end stuff, I would feel that the MOTU gear is excellent bang for the buck and there is always the option of later upgrading it via Black Lion Audio in the future if you are up for some Warranty invalidating modifications. With all that said though, in the long run, you may be better off just spending more money on the higher end gear from the start over upgrading later. To be honest, get the best you can afford taking in to concideration that without good quality monitors and experienced ears, you may never be able to tell the difference between any of them.

You may be looking in the wrong place... are you looking in the settings menu at the very top of the instrument window, or in the patch list directly over the cutoff knob? It sounds to me like there is some sort of issue with the format of the data you received... Or there is an issue with they creator/type code on the files. If you programmed the beats in the step sequencer in UB than dragged them out into the arrange, you may still have the "internal" sequencer on the UB running. Turn it off if it is on. B

Just to let you know, when I bought Logic Pro 8 the main installer disk was bad. It took an ungodly ammount of time for Apple to get me a replacement. I would say call Apple sooner than later and get the wheels in motion now. As an additional note, te first guy I talked to at Apple told me to return the disks to the place that I bought them... I asked if he seriously wanted me to try to return open software, he said yes... I asked to speak with someone else immediately. All in all, I normally have had great support from Apple, but the replacement disk just took forever... It may be because Logic had just come out though... Is it possible that one of your modifier keys (command, option, control, etc.) is not working? What version of Logic are you using? Have you recently applied any updates? B
