Logic Pro has always been very good at manipulating time. With Smart Tempo, Logic takes its tempo manipulating capability to another level. It's now possible to record a music performance (audio or MIDI) without a click track and have Logic create a tempo map automatically, or have Logic flex the recording to match the tempo of your project. In this updated course, Logic expert Joe Albano explains everything you need to know about this powerful tempo detection/analysis feature.
To put Smart Tempo into context, Joe starts with a brief Logic tempo handling history lesson and gives some background on important tempo manipulation concepts. An in-depth description of the Smart Tempo Modes is next. Here, you discover the difference between Keep, Adapt, and Auto modes, and you see them all in context with real-life recording and editing examples. There is a whole section on the Tempo File editor, where you learn to manually and precisely adjusts beat markers. You discover the new additions introduced in Logic Pro X 10.4.2, such as how to use Smart Tempo with MIDI and the enhanced handling of multitrack recordings. Joe wraps up the course by giving strategies to overcome some Smart Tempo limitations.

Another excellent Joe Albano course. It does exactly what it says on the tin: demystifies Smart Tempo. In places, I did feel that the explanations were a little convoluted, but overall the course is very useful. It does an excellent job of showing how Smart Tempo can be put to use in a range of contexts. Like I said, it delivers on the promise of its title.
