Original topic post is from Glitchy MIDI connection between my Yamaha DTX Vdrum kit and Logi
Hi! I'm sort of new to recording MIDI and I'm having a very irritating, frustrating problem. One of those issues that makes me want to throw the damn computer against a wall.
Problem: On my Yamaha VDrum kit, all the pads and controls work fine when I just play them by themselves. But with Logic Pro X, when I play it into a MIDI track, there is no audio output from the snare or the open hi hat pads. When I hit the snare, Logic Pro X reads the incoming MIDI note correctly (D1 I think) but no audio output. When I hit the open hi hat, LPX reads the incoming MIDI note correctly (A#7 I think) but no audio output. All the other drum pads, pedals and control surfaces on the drum kit work correctly; correct incoming MIDI note going into Logic and correct audio output.
Equipment:
Mac mini 16 gig ram running Mavericks and Logic Pro X
Yamaha DTX 430 VDrum kit connected to my computer via USB cable through a USB hub. Local control is off.
Casio WK-200 keyboard/MIDI controller connected to my computer via USB cable through USB hub. Local control is off.
Focusrite Sapphire Pro 18 in 8 out digital interface
MAudio studio monitors
I never have any problems with MIDI functions or recording on the Casio keyboard. Never had to go into Logic's Environment or anything like that to tweak any MIDI mapping for the Casio keyboard. Just plugged it in and it works fine. No matter what instrument patch I pick in LPX, the MIDI notes all work just fine on the Casio.
The drum kit has been a different matter. I've had it two months. All the control surfaces work fine as long as I'm playing it as an audio instrument but when I start recording MIDI from it, the snare and open hi hats don't sound at all, even though Logic Pro X detects the correct MIDI note in the Transport bar when I strike the pad. It detects MIDI coming in... just won't play the audio signal.
Yamaha had a firmware upgrade that I applied and still didn't fix the problem. Yamaha also makes a standalone app for iPad that can be used to change drum kits, adjust velocity, playing pressure and so forth on each control surface. When I plug the drum kit into my iPad, all the control surfaces work just fine...even the snare and open hi hat.
So in a nutshell, the snare and open hi hat generate the correct MIDI notes and Logic Pro X receives them correctly, but does not generate the audio output. Midi input and Audio output from all the other control surfaces on the drum kit work just fine. Help! :) Thanks so much!
