Hello, I saw your post and I thought I would reply if no one has been able to help you yet. Do you have an audio interface to record your band with? I am not sure what the processing power of the mac mini is or what all the Logic Express version does but if you have an audio interface you can get started but keep in mind that drums can eat up a lot of inputs. I have a total of 8 inputs. Each input can go to a track so the band plays together and each instrument records on it's on track. If you don't know anything at all about the software keep in mind in order to record you have to select the track and click the record button on the track and click record on the transport if you have something plugged in to the audio for a audio track. Hello Steve, I am really starting to get into your TNT starting with June 2007. What I do is trace through what you do in the video on logic 8. A Lot of things don't work because it's Logic 8. One of these things is I don't have an Instrument Layer but the Midi Instrument Layer is blank. I use the Mixer Layer but when I shift click on the tracks and then option click the layer menu they the faders don't show up. Do you offer any help to people who may be using Logic 8 on these older videos? That's good about hiding the tracks but the space an instrument take's is a lot. Is there anyway to reduce the space instruments take other than exporting as audio and deleting all the instruments? Thanks, Alan

Steve, thanks for writing back. I think that hard disk memory is far beyond freezing tracks. My Hard Disk space problem has a lot to do with one very large instrument what takes up a lot of space. I am working on Templates and noticing something in the Environment called "to recording & thru" rather than "sequencer Input". I also noticed that the click isn't connected with this cables in this layer, even in the videos. In my messy environment my physical input goes straight to that and doesn't connect to the input keyboard or that input box that gives the note names. It doesn't play when you play the keyboard however the tracks work in arrange. When I tried to reconnect it and connect the click up to the path a strange thing happened the click got rerouted to one of the aux tracks. This is one of my aux templates. Do you think that you may spend a little more time on clicks and ports or do have an idea of what is going on here. I am attempting to clean up the Audio layer by deleting some unwanted tracks. I realize this is long but I don't know how to explain it better. Thanks, Alan

When you create an empty project in Logic 8 you'll get a clean clicks and ports layer.... There not empty projects there old templates. Hello, I was searching through the core logic 8 and TNT about Instruments which use Aux Tracks. I have a lot of songs that started off with a template but I didn't use the drum tracks. The template had all the drums assignment to use Aux Tracks for drums. In otherwords an Aux Track for kick and one for snare. It's suppose to be easier in 8 but you have to go to the instruments and select all the layers in the EXS 24. The reason I say this is because it takes up less space to be able to pull that part of the environment in a opposed to having a template for brass one for orchestra and so on. It's ok to paste the tracks into the other file but it gets confusing and it doesn't always get the desirable results. Thanks, Alan

No what I meant was let say I have a few drum instruments that you use in the EXS 24 that I am not using I would like to delete the drum Instruments. These were done in Logic 7 and used EXS 24 Instruments. Now if I delete the Instrument and later want to use it again with the Aux tracks I have to set it up all over again. I don't think the Aux Tracks take up any space. What I don't want to do is make it all over again I just want the Instrument to load like that so does the Aux stuff save with it. The other thing that makes it easier is if you can import the environment of that part. I tried it and the Aux tracks don't show up until you add them and the instruments don't show up at all. No I don't want more instruments it's the instruments that take up unneeded memory. I am not really sure what more instruments would do to help the problem. It's a Instrument that needs to be all set up for the Aux Tracks as a saved instrument. You are correct in that importing the environment for use with Aux Tracks wouldn't help. Thanks, Alan
