You guys are fantastic. I know we are all up to date and everything is running in 64bit and there aren't any 32 plugins running either. I suppose i haven't worked with anyone who is using as many samples as this fellow is. Ski's explanation makes total sense. I completely get it and I'll be able to explain that to my student in a way that he'll get. My own projects are always on an external because I heard that was just what you were supposed to do but I never really understood why. Can I send a box of cookies to the home office or something? You guys are invaluable.

I just went through this with some old files that had all kinds of weird data associated with them. Got most of it killed via the event list, but some if it seemed to be easier to pinpoint via the hyper editor. Don't know why that was. . . Select the MIDI file in the arrange window and click on hyper editor at the bottom. If you click on the volume header it should select all the subsequent events and you can just hit delete.

Hey everyone - Perhaps someone could help me trouble shoot this one. I have a Korg EX800 synth that I have hooked up to Logic via a MIDI - USB cable. Almost always, when I send midi to it from Logic, notes get stuck on. Sometimes it doesn't happen at first, but it usually does eventually. I don't have this problem when I control the EX800 directly from a MIDI keyboard, so I feel like the problem isn't the synth so much as something in my particular signal chain, which is as follows: 1. External Midi track in logic sends midi out through a generic cheap 5$ midi - USB cable. 2. Synth plays notes in real time 3. Logic receives audio back from synth via a record enabled audio channel strip. I don't think the problem is created in Logic either, because I have used this setup before to send midi to Reason, and that's always been fine. I suppose it's likely that my problem is the cheap cable, but it seems that most people that have problems with this type of cable usually have an all or nothing result. I haven't found any instances of something weird like this. Aside from buying a midi sport solo or whatever, is there anything else I can do to trouble shoot this issue? Is there anything I can do in the environment to make the EX800 happier when it gets it's midi data? Thanks again! Bret

More info about the sticking notes: Playback stops in Logic, but the notes keep sounding until the korg's envelope ends the note, another note comes along to take it's place (it only has 4 voices), or I turn the Korg off (and they don't return when I turn it back on)

Thanks for getting back to me Joe. I think you might be on to something, only the midi control for the EX800 is REALLY limited. I fiddled with every available midi setting there was to no avail. In all this fiddling, however, I discovered that notes played from the caps lock keyboard DO NOT get stuck on. Whaaa? Anyhow, the next idea is that there must be some bit of midi data that is making the synth unhappy. So I'm thinking a transformer might be able to filter that out. If I were to set something up that only let what the caps lock keyboard creates pass through, what would that be? I have an AlesisQ49, an iPad, and an EWI, all seem to make mr. Korg not want to ever shut up. Does anyone who knows Logic better than I know exactly what midi data the caps lock keyboard makes? I've already tried only letting notes through, but that didn't work. Tried filtering out every option in the first dialog of the transform menu but still. . . Thanks for your help in advance - Bret

What are you trying to accomplish by doing this? I can't really answer without knowing, but I'll guess anyhow. If you are mapping something that was recorded without a click, then all Logic is doing is displaying the tempo between each beat you have mapped. I don't believe there is anyway to force the mapped audio to a constant tempo within the same project, but I could be wrong. If you are doing this in order to force the non-click recorded track to match to something that is on a grid, I think you need to map the audio in a separate project and then export the audio file. Logic will include the tempo and beat map in the file. Then open up the project you want the file to conform to and drag it in. Logic will ask to import tempo info - say NO. At this point, if you click flex in the inspector, and then choose polyphonic and check complex - it should snap right up. I am assuming you have a destination in mind for the audio, but this would also work if you just want to start from scratch with something and import into a new project afterwards. Let me know if this helps! There is a Steve H TNT about this (that's how I know how to do it). He explains this infinitely better than I did!

Does anyone know anything about the AUsampler that appears to be built into OSX? Has there always been one? Does it just look cooler in Lion? I found it today and haven't been able to find anything via google about it. I'm just interested because I wonder if it hints at things to come or if it's just a tool available for developers. Whatever the case may be, the GUI is about 20x more modern than the EXS24, and it's pretty cool that even garageband users can make there own sampler instruments. No drag and drop of samples though - which is, a drag. Bret
