Yeah, latency is more an issue to do with recording than playback, unles we are dealing with DSP plugins where it takes time to process the sound. In this situation, the sound coming out of the plugin can lag the playing audio. fortumately Logic can correct this if you visit the Audio > Generla preferences and set the "Plug-in delay compensation" to All ... see if that has an effect. As Jacqueslacouth points out, you can play with the buffer size to adjust latency during recording. What is more likely to be happening is logic is having a hard time streaming the data off the disc. This can happen if a disc becomes fragmented, or if you you have a little RAM and lots of loops playing, because your computer will be forced to use a lot more virtual memory. Okay, before suggesting something further, just a few questions. Does the XSKey work at all? Is there any chance it could have been fried by a power surge? This can happen if it's plugged into an external USB hub ... trust me, I know! There may be a way to fix it, but let me know the answers to the above.

Hmm, I thought it might be a memory issue with the key itself ... if it works sometimes and not others, try pluging it directly into a computer USB port to make sure it's not a power issue! Keep me posted!

The G4 you have will be solid with Logic 7. There's a feature called "freeze" built in that will render tracks and their effects, and that really helps. Additionally, IMHO, Logic 7 runs foaster than Logic 6. The real issue with your key is that it works sometimes and not others ... this is pretty strange, or at least, I've never experienced this sort of issue myself. Maybe the contacts are dirty or broken? Look closly in the area where it connects to the USB port. You can try runing this file ... it can repair keys whose memory has been corrupted ... Open the Audio Driver preferences and disable software monitoring. Audio menu > Audio Hardware & Preferences.

If your other controller works fine, and the caps keyboard works, I'd look to the controller as the culprit. Sometimes this can happen if Local Control is not turned off, but if it's a controller, it probably shouldn't have local control to begin with. Do you have a MIDI cable pluggedinto the input? Maybe there's a MIDI loop happening ...
