Vocal Pitch Correction
Guys, I'm still working my way through the intricacies of Logic. I emailed support with a question concerning vocal pitch correction tools and the recommendations were Auto Tune:501 and Melodyne. My question to you, are these compatible/interchangeable with Logic 9? I thought Logic had a pitch correction utility tool within Logic? Thanks for your input as usual. LogicStu-JDC

Hi LogicStu-JDC, Both Melodyne and AutoTune can be used in Logic as plug-ins. We've got video tutorials on both I'd recommend checking out in our online player - so you can se how they work :) If you'd prefer to test out what Logic has built-in we've a few articles on The Hub which could be helpful: http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/logic-pro/create-tpain-autotune-effect-logic http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/logic-pro/pitch-correction-in-logic-pro-for-non-musicians http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/logic-pro/play-logics-pitch-correction-plugin-with-your-midi-keyboard Hope this info helps :) Rounik

Hi LogicStu-JDC, Yes, definitely check out the articles Rounik mentioned... If you want to view a tutorial explaining the Pitch Correction plugin included with Logic, watch video #24 of Logic 7 202 : Logic's Plug-Ins - Unplugged http://play.macprovideo.com/logicplugins1/24 Although this tutorial was made for Logic 7, it is still relevant to Logic 9... apart from the outdated user interface! :) Christian

Christian, Thanks! I'll check out the link and see where we go from here. It might be a worthwhile investment to purchase the plug-ins also. I would definitely recommend Melodyne. The interface is great, and the pitch and time-stretching algorithms are superb. You can use the app as a standalone application or as a plugin in Logic. The tutorial by David Andris gives a clear indication of the possibilities with Melodyne: http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/melodyne201-advanced Check it out, and see how you can pitch and time-correct your audio.

I've been playing around w/ the pitch corrector onboard logic, and its really neat. I was wondering about when to utilize it…during vocal recording or post recording? Just experimenting with it post-recording, I see how it effects vocals. And does the "chromatic" setting cover the spectrum of notes vocally that are out of pitch opposed to say, maybe the "bmaj7" setting? I didn't see anything that would answer that question in my logic tutorials. Thanks, LogicStu-JDC

Hi LogicStu-JDC, Use it during the post recording phase. You will use it when you are in the mixing phase. The Chromatic scale includes every note, even the semi-tones. So yes it will include notes from the Bmaj7 scale.

Hi LogicStu-JDC, I work for Synchro Arts, the company who developed VocALign and Revoice Pro 3. Revoice Pro 3 offers pitch and time-stretching algorithms as well as a whole lot more. It might be worth watching this overview video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Au5JLq7W5k Happy to answer any questions you might have

As the other members told you, both choices go well with the plugins that have been developed to integrate both softwares. In my case I use Autotune pro (https://autotune.pro) from antarestech and It goes great! If you try, text me and we can share advices and tips!
