    Adding FX in GarageBand
Student453440 wrote: (Quote) When you select acoustic or electric guitar you get a dozen effects to choose from.....but I bet there is a thousand other fx that I have but cant get on the screen... where are they..? especially nice synth fx for keyboard or guitar... I would rather just have a list available really easy dropdown and select no matter what instrument I was using. (Unquote) Besides the effect patches available in the Library pane, there are additional FX presets available within the plug-in headers. In the Smart Controls pane at the bottom—shortcut "B" if it's not already open (see below)—under "Track" in the Inspector panel at the left you'd insert an effect plug-in on a particular Track, and then in the pull-down menu in the plug-in header you'll find a variety of both general-purpose and specific-instrument presets. You can also save & recall your own presets there, as well..

(Quote) If I put a small pickup on an acoustic instrument like a Baggs, can I go direct in to my interface and skip the mics? (Unquote) Yes, but make sure you plug it into the most suitable type of input—this is commonly an Instrument input (if required), as opposed to a Line input (even though they use the same 1/4" jack).. (Quote) Anything I should know about that..?? thanks (Unquote) An Instrument input is intended primarily for electric guitar and bass signals, but an acoustic pickup *may* require one as well, depending on its design—it's important to read the instructions that come with the *specific* pickup you're using to see what their recommendation is. Most interfaces have Mic, Line, and a couple of Instrument inputs (see the video below)—the Line and Instrument inputs may be different jacks, or they may share jacks, with a switch to choose one or the other—check the interface manual if you're not sure. If it turns out that an Instrument input is required, but the interface doesn't have one, then you'd need a suitable Direct Box. Again, go by the recommendation in the pickup's documentation, or on the pickup company's support page(s). I should mention, however, that while you can record acoustic guitar this way, the sound of most pickups won't be as natural and open as recording with a mic, so if you can get the mic working, I'd recommend that over recording with a pickup any day..

it seems that I modified one of my tracks and saved the mod but the original was better. I made a copy of the original to USB. Is there a copy of that original still in a folder somewhere to re instate it?? or can I use the CD 44 wave copy on USB to copy it back and over ride the bad mix I have now..?? also... I saw on a GB video that the fx choices onscreen in that video were over on the right of the screen.Mine show upon the bottom left...can I move that around????

You didn't say how you modified the Track—most modifications like edits or added effects are non-destructive, which means they don't change the original audio recording, so if that's the case you should be able to go back to the original audiofile at any time, by either dragging out the edge(s) of the audio wave or bypassing/removing the effects. On the other hand if you modified the MIDI data in an Instrument Track or a Drummer Track then you'd have to revert to an older Saved version of the Project. If you have a copy of the Project from before you made the change (like in a Time Machine BU or clone BU) you can always go back to that; in the case of audio, you can also drag in any audio file—GB will copy it into the current version of the Project. If you did want to locate a Project's actual audio file(s) on disk, GB stores them within the Project file (which by default would be in ~/Music/GarageBand). You can right-click on the Project file and select "Show Package Contents"—the audio files for that Project will be in Media > Audio Files. Re position of the FX choices [inserts]: that was probably an older version of GarageBand, bottom left is the location now.
