    general info
I am using open backed Grados for monitoring headphones...I have been playing with electric guitar effects on a mic,d acoustic guitar..and getting feedback..I have the box checked for feedback fix....any ideas?? When you select acoustic or electric guitar you get a dozen effects to choose from.....but I bet there is a thousand other fx that I have but cant get on the screen... where are they..?? especially nice synth fx for keyboard or guitar... I would rather just have a list available really easy dropdown and select no matter what instrument I was using. I already see that its hard to incorporate acoustic guitar via mic and get really good sound for several reasons including that I cant play like I did 40 years ago. I need to get a really comfortable electric and stick mostly to electric direct in,no mics, and fx use skill. Mic,s are probably good if you have great ones and know how to use the well.Playing acoustic with fx is kind of lame. You need speed and its harder on acoustic for that.

Hi - I'm going to break this up into two threads, one about recording miked acoustic guitar, and the other about where to find additional effects.. (Quote) I am using open backed Grados for monitoring headphones... (Unquote) That might be a likely reason for feedback issues, if sound leaking from the open-back phones is picked up my the mic and fed right back into the open-back headphones, forming the feedback loop. Closed-back phones are normally employed for acoustic studio recording. I'd probably avoid the automatic Feedback Protection option in GB, and position a directional (cardioid) mic about a foot from the acoustic guitar, pointing at the 12th fret, more or less, monitoring with closed-back phones. I'd avoid using the computer's built-in mic, which will be more likely to pick up unwanted sound in the room. The video below is from the "Logic Pro X 501: Studio Series - Recording Guitars" course, but it applies to recording acoustic guitar in any DAW..

I will just keep this thread going rather than a new one.. look at this screenshot....you can see the very small waveform on the bottom guitar track. thats acoustic guitar recorded in stereo..I was experimenting with fx... without fx it was way to quiet even if I pushed the slider up..but when I played with a nice distortion the graph stayed small but the sound was full and right up front. It seems that the fx itself is affecting the gain ...when I breathe in the mic with distortion its loud... thats the level I want this guitar but even if I dont have distortion. its silly to distort an acoustic guitar but its just for learning this DAW. But I can start to see a nice electric would sound very nice and be plenty loud as long as it had some effects. I dont know if a clean electric would be loud though..?

Hi- The maximum visual height of a wave does not necessarily correspond to the perceived loudness of the audio. When you added distortion it compressed the wave as it boosted the level. If you want to do this without distorting the audio, a compressor should help. Try this: turn on the default compressor and increase Amount. If that doesn't get you closer to where you want to go, click on the Compressor plug-in insert, which will open a plug-in window with additional controls. To start with, for acoustic guitar try a Ratio of around 4:1 to 6:1, lower the Threshold for greater effect, try Attack at around 10ms or so, and increase the Gain as desired. Play around with the settings to get an idea of what the compressor is doing.. Compression is too complex a subject to really explain in detail in a forum post—check out the following courses for more information: https://www.macprovideo.com/video/audiopedia-mixing-mastering/9-9-dynamics-dynamic-processing?afid=E470KLQ7r9 (videos 9-20) https://www.macprovideo.com/video/audio-processing-basics/15-15-compression-in-use?afid=E470KLQ7r9 (videos 15-21) https://www.macprovideo.com/course/audio-mistakes-101-10-common-compression-mistakes?afid=E470KLQ7r9 (slightly more advanced) (Quote) how do you attach photo? Sorry, you can't—only the Forum Moderator or a System Admin can attach a photo to a post at this time.
