An excellent introduction to the tools in InDesign. Mark Gatter has a well humoured approach to course delivery which keeps you engaged and covers all the basics to get you started with document design.

I spent $79 for a Train Simple InDesign course (it was heavily discounted!) and this was WAY better!

I've used Indesign before, but still found plenty new info in this course. Great job. Also Mark has the type of reassuring presentation voice: Go ahead, you can do it! Looking forward to the other courses allready.

Mark gives a great overview of the ins and outs of the InDesign interface and tools. This is essential to getting the most out of the program. InDesign is a powerful utility for creating very advanced documents, but Mark breaks everything down into easy-to-understand steps, with lots of tips and tricks along the way. Great stuff!

I was going a bit mad using Photoshop for laying out small text documents and knew InDesign was something I needed to learn to make bigger and better docs. It would also get my work off of...ughh...Microsoft Word.... for professional documents.
So far I have watched 101-105 in this series and they have been a joy! Mark's good pace and dulcet tones make things simple and easy to understand.
I also enjoyed the little bits of history and deeper explanations peppered throughout the tutorials that I imagine a lot of other tutorials would breeze over or not even be aware of (such as the history of the Pantone company, Slug, printing theory etc...).
There are also a lot of hidden hints and tips that Mark drops in to each video, so watching them all is a must.
I found the best way to get the most out of these tutorials is to go through the whole series, and carry out each video yourself in InDesign. I take full notes with screenshots and paste them into Evernote, screenshots are annotated with Skitch (both of which are free). Very useful for when I can't watch videos at work. So far i have racked up 10,000 words and 250 screenshots, a bit keen on my part but InDesign has a LARGE learning curve.
These tutorials have made things very clear. If you've come from using Photoshop or even Dreamweaver you'll understand most of the principals quite quickly as they are very similar.
Photoshop: Layers, strokes, fills...
Dreamweaver: Paragraph Styles and Character Styles...
All in all, wholeheartedly recommended and I can't wait for the advanced series!
