16 core or 2x W5700X spec bump for video rendering?
Which spec upgrade is better for HEVC export times in FCPX (no After Burner)? 12 to 16 cores or 1x to 2x Radeon Pro W5700X module? Both would cost 1250 €. I remember Max in one of his Mac Pro videos stating that the macOS future of video editing will be more and more GPU based. I wonder why it isn't yet tho.

Hi - In this MPV article one of our video gurus suggests "spend money on the GPU over CPU, if you have to choose on a tight budget".. https://www.macprovideo.com/article/final-cut/final-cut-pro-x-basic-hardware-guide?afid=E470KLQ7r9 As an audio guy myself I can't really advise, but after a quick look I was left with two main takeaways: - general wisdom seems to concur with the above, especially re the W5700X, which seems highly recommended re HEVC export - the ultimate answer will depend on many factors, including the specific computer model, CPU, video card/GPU, resolution of the video file[s], most critical activity [in this case HVEC export?], and even the version of FCPX I've added a link [above] to one of our video courses on Finishing/Exporting from FCPX -- I don't know if there's any discussion of hardware/performance [it's more procedure-oriented], but maybe there'd be something useful in there, or maybe one of our FCPX/video gurus will chime in with a recommendation.. I've also moved this thread from the General forum to the FCPX subforum in the Video forum..
