Trying to achieve a luma/chroma effect in FCPX
Hoping someone can advise me on how to achieve an effect. A picture paints a thousand words, so please see http://houseofdoolescu.com/video/raineffect.m4v I almost have it! I'm trying to get the guitar image to appear only when the rain mask is present. I can't seem to get rid of the dark partial image. I'm doing a rather convoluted combination of chroma key for the basic guitar image, duplicating that, making compound clips with a black background, applying luma key to that. I generated the rain mask in Particle Illusion, made a compound clip with a black background, applied luma key to that... I feel like I'm missing something, a simpler more elegant way that will look clean. Or even if it's complicated, just a way to make it look really clean with the guitar appearing and disappearing completely over the background image. I hope someone can advise me :)

Hi - I've attached a FCPX course on Compositing & Visual FX to this thread -- there's a section on Keying & Masking, maybe that'll be of some help (just click on the More Info tab). I'm an audio guy myself, so I can't advise, but perhaps a FCP guru will have a suggestion.. I've also moved this thread to the FCPX subforum.
