Hello, I have noticed that when starting a new sound in Massive that the Macro controls are unassigned except for the first one. I've tried everything but there doesn't seem to be a way to assign them. I am not talking about dragging the crosshair to a empty box after the macro is already assigned. That's easy but not the same as programming the macro control. I use Massive inside Logic 8 running on Mac OS 10.6.8 Thanks, Alan

Hi dynamicalan, I'm a bit confused. You assign the macros by dragging the crosshair icon to another parameter. You can then dial in an amount on the macro knob to. You can then double click under the macro to give it name.

Hello Gary, no if you select a new instrument from the file menu then the macro selections are empty except for the first micro Vibrato. This isn't the same thing as dragging the crosshair to an empty box. That's modulating with what's already assigned to the macro. If you want to load something into the macros (in the lower right hand corner of the window) you can't assign anything into these such as reverb, delay, fx or anything. If you load an instrument in they are programed into the patch. You can take those and save those as a template by resetting everything else but that's the only way to do it. The user guide states that you can right click to do that in the standalone version but to consult the daw to do that as a plugin. Thanks, Alan

Hi Alan, I don't think you can map the stepper wavetable changes to a Macro. I also tried to see if this could be automated in Logic, but it does not pick up the program changes. Are you using Massive in a DAW or as standalone?

Hello Gary, thanks for your reply. I use it inside Logic 8. Here's what I've noticed about massive: It isn't built to respond to cc input meaning that if you want to feedback to a condition for a midi note range to do certain things it doesn't. It just does mechanical things. This is not like in Reaktor where you can filter according to a range of note numbers. This may be possible using the Massive language to write a program but what it does is feedback an audio signal through the inserts back into the LFOs. What is possible; is to use what Steve designed in his TNT I believe; using a few Massive instances controlled by an instrument object with a delay object and a transpose object. Hello, I'm going through the Massive users guide in order to learn Massive. I was wondering if anyone else is studying this synth. If you look at the different predefined settings it looks like a lot of engineering went into this. By, reverse engineering these settings it's possible to figure out how they did it. I'm thinking of a Harp sound named "Harpolodic". I notice a lot of micro routings in yellow - the ones in the upper left hand corner. These are for the use with an external keyboard controller. I'm interested in a resource on the making of these presets specifically a book. If anyone else is working on there skill of making they're own presets I would be interested in what there doing or what there approach is.

Hello, I found the answer for the Macros in Massive. What the user is to suppose to do is write in the Macro Control the name the knob is to control. However, they are to control according to the scheme. Below explains what it's about. The exact assignments for each preset will vary, but in general they conform to the following pattern. Note that you can assign these knobs to control whatever parameters you want; the descriptions below reflect only the typical settings of the presets in the MASSIVE sound library. 1. MacroKnobs1and2:Oscillator.Settings related to the oscillator section are generally assigned to these first two knobs. Examples: WT-position, Intensity, Pitch (for chords etc.) 2 Macro Knobs 3 and 4: Spectrum. This column usually controls settings related to the frequency domain, i.e. anything that changes the sound i.e. spectrum. Examples: Filter Cutoff, Phase distortion level 3. Macro Knobs 5 and 6: FX. Effect-related settings are typically assigned to knobs 5 and 6. The dry/wet parameters of active effects are often assigned to Control knob 5. The other Control knob may be assigned to other effect parameters such as effect time, feedback, and so on. 4. Macro Knobs 7 and 8: Motion/Time. Knobs 7 and 8 are related to the time domain, i.e. anything that changes the sound in time. Parameters such as modulation speed and intensity or the L FO or Stepper Rate may be assigned here. Examples: Rate/Amp of LFO/Env/Stepper/Performer, Morph speed, Envelope amount. This was taken from the Massive Reference: Section 4:9 Page 83. I suppose it's alright to post this but it may be a good idea for me to check with Native Instruments. I'm unable to delete the post but I wanted to leave it up here in case anyone else doesn't know this information.
