Hey guys, i am on MainStage 3 using a synth patch called power lead. i am looking for a plain crunchy synth sound, and almost have it, but when i turn off the phaser effect there is still a weird phasing things going on with the sound. does anyone know how to get rid of this? thanks!

First which MainStage plugin are you using? If it is the retrosynth then try adjusting the “CENTS” On the 2nd oscillator back closer to 12 o’clock. (Other plugins have a similar parameter). This detunes Osc 2 in relation osc 1 giving a chorusing or sometimes “phasing kind of effect”. You can also make sure there is no waveform shaping or modulation going on by adjusting that control to 12 o’clock. I don’t have the layouts in from of me but some plugins have an analog or a “fat” effect that might also be causing the pseudo phasing., Let me know if any of this worked.

Hi - All good suggestions.. I found that patch in MainStage -- it's the ES2 Synth -- and apparently most of the "weird phasing thing" is coming from the Unison feature (above the Filter section) which is on and set to 16 voices. Reducing it to a couple of voices tames the phasiness, though turning Unison off reduces the patch to a fairly bland sawtooth sound. There's also 3c worth of detuning in Osc 1 (only Oscs 1 & 2 seem to be contributing to the patch).
