Hello, I was thinking about purchasing the Logic 101 but I don't know how much of it I already know. If it explained the basics so you have a solid understand including that of the plug-ins it would be worth it but I don't know if I know most of what is taught. I do ok but I do it by rote. Hello, thanks for writing back. What I know is this: I can edit midi regions in piano roll change the display move notes but not change volume by dragging inside the note. In the Notation window I can change notes and up and down and drag to other positions with corrections, however I cannot change length. So between the two I can get by. I usually do automation in the arrange window of volume and all plugins but not recording them in, that never works. I had an idea to change the level of all volume automation at once because the drum track is peaking out however, I cannot use the list to to display just volume automation but I have many muted regions. I can edit audio by changing the amplitude or the section and energize as we did in 7 in the sample editor but that all it's used for, and in Apple loops I can change the pitch but it's the wrong octave. I can cut and paste together audio files and midi regions in arrange. I cannot get rid of noise when embedded in audio when you want to keep the audio. I use many instruments in Logic Studio however, a lot of instruments don't should like real people playing and that is the point. I use a lot of plugins such as compressor eq and multipressor by turning the knobs to see how the sound changes but I don't know the basics. The other ones such as the evoc filter bank I won't use because doesn't sound useful. The reason I am saying this is so that I can get something out of it utilize a lot of it. I have already done the free tutorials and I found a small amount that I didn't know. What I remember that was useful was hitting the escape key twice makes the toolbar go back to the pointer. I am thinking about getting Logic 303 if I could get an 20% discount so I am waiting for a response to that question. It may be that the Logic 101 covers the basics so that it would be very worth while also training in keyboard shortcuts would help efficiency. I realize I should rewrite the section of what I know so it's easier to read but I didn't. I think this post should be deleted after you respond to it if you respond back. Thanks

Hi dynamicalan Thank you for your post and taking the time to outline your knowledge so concisely. From what you have written, especially re: automation I would recommend the Logic 101 tutorial. I was surprised at how much I learnt from it even though I train others in Logic. Of particular interest to you would be topics such as using busses, automation, MIDI editing and recording, using the other editing windows, screensets, channel strip settings, the environment and the mixing tricks - although there are so many workflow enhancements that I feel you'll also enjoy From your description of using the plugins then I'd also recommend the Plugins Unplugged tutorial. Although this particular tutorial was written for the plugins in Logic 7 apart from a couple of minor differences (mainly aesthetically) Steve Horlick does an amazing job at explaining how all the parameters work within the plugins and does so with 'real world' examples. In fact, both Steve and Martin are trainers of the highest quality because they are able to demystify in a few hours of video what can take a day or two to teach in a one-to-one environment. Out of interest what kind of music do you make & how long have you been a Logic user? Also, I'm not sure i understand this point: [i]I cannot get rid of noise when embedded in audio when you want to keep the audio. [/i] Are you refering to clicks/pops when cut regions sit next to eachother? The crossfade tool will be helpful for this. Hi, thanks for writing back. I do mostly rock and jazz. I am working on a CD entitled Movie Magic. The song Movie Magic can be heard at http://www.mp3.com/dynamicalan I've been using Logic sense October 2006. Noise is string noise and also breath noise while retaining the Audio. I think that Plugins unplugged would be a great choice if I could only buy one or the other. I do know about busses but I usually keep everything on the track however I noticed that some instruments bells for example would be useful to use the same sound as a vocal channel strip. The bell sound is hidden in the sample. In order to understand the plugins is it better to use the plugins unplugged or does 101 or 303 discuss the basics of this? Thanks

Hi Christian, I do view the table of contents when I view the tutorial. I don't know if it will teach a lot of what I don't know but if it serves a solid foundation of Logic including plugins basics then it may be worth it. Hi Alan there are different techniques to get rid of unwanted noise. Depending on the noise it may need quite a creative solution! I'd try using the noise gate first and perhaps automating the volume. However, this would work better with breath noise IMHO. Also, you can try to remove the unwanted noises' EQ... best thing to do is to use the best quality mic's, good pop shields etc, a good room & audio interface to record. Anyway, back to the topic... I think the Plugins unplugged tutorial may suit you better. However, again I do think both the Logic 101 and Plugins unplugged will help you greatly. All the tutorials are great value for money, really, and you are more than welcome to visit the forums here to ask any questions. Of course, we'll do our best to help you in what ever way we can.
