Convert Regions To New Audio Files
Hi, I'm studying Martin's Mastering Logic 8: #90. I'm trying to recreate steps he outlined to convert an Apple Loop to a new audio file so I can edit the loop. This is an 8-bar loop. I went to Audio - Convert Regions to New Audio Files and got the dialog box. Martin said to change the File Format to anything other than AIFF or CAF, as these are use for Apple Loops. He had selected a wave format in the example. However, when I select Wave and save I get an error message: Not converting selected Apple Loop files. Apple Loops can only be converted to filetype AIFF. OK. So, I go back and save as an AIFF file and leave all other settings alone. But I notice that the size of the file will now be 3.6 MB, where it was 1.2 MB as an Apple Loop. Is that typical? But after I save everytime the resulting file is longer than 8 bars and the key of the sample has changed. Is Logic time stretching the new sample to put it in the same tempo? What am I doing wrong? Perhaps Martin had performed an additional step in a previous tutorial chapter. How can I convert this Apple Loop and keep the same file length and Tempo? Thanks for any help. Beder

Hi the way i would do this is to set locators to the region and bounce the region to a new audio file (aiff, wav etc). Then the loop is easily editable out of it's apple loop state. It's normal that an aiff file is bigger than an apple loop in .caf format from my experience. Rounik

Hi Beder, Try selecting the appleloop region in the arrange window. Go to "File/Export/Region as audio file". Check "Add resulting files to Audio Bin, export it as aiff and import it back to your arrange window.

Thanks for your replies! But I wonder why it didn't work as in the tutorial. When Martin did it, it worked - #90, Reversing Audio Files. Any thoughts? Beder

Hi, Yes, I guess its a software issue. This happens to me too, I thought I was doing something wrong. I watched the video several times on this topic. Well now I know how to get around this issue. The was Martin explained it was a lot simpler
