Adding a Gain plug-in to the Output Track
This is my first post/question in this forum. I'll be hanging about often after this. Anyway, I'm watching the Logic 101 tutorial and I'm near the end. I'm getting ready to verify my output levels in the output 1-2 track. Well, in the video, Martin shows how he clicks on one of the open plug-in slots to insert the plug-in. The question is: How come my Output 1-2 track have no plug-in slots. I'm not saying there are no open ones available. What I'm saying is there are no slots at all. It's just an open space there. Any ideas why? In fact, here's a screenshot of it: http://http://www.dannycruz.com/danny_random/logic_output.png

Hi Kiteboarder and welcome to the macProvideo forum! To solve your problem, try this : 1-Open the mixer. 2-Click on "all" at the top right of the mixer window to see all channel strips. 3-Find the "pre-listen" channel strip. (it is usually audio 256). Make sure it is set to "stereo" (two interlocked circles). When set to "surround", the inserts of the output will bu unavailable. You probably listened to some surround appleloops... that's why it happened. Just switch it back to stereo and all will be back to normal! Tell me if it works!

Hi Christian, I had the same problem with my output track after listening to some surround appleloops, I tried your solution and it worked. But when I dragged and dropped the surround loops I wanted to use into my song, unfortunately the solution didn't work. I even reset the input and output areas. But to no avail. What I did do was open a previous version of the song and transfered the surround appleloops into it. The output track appears normal, plenty of insert windows, and all seems to be fine. I wonder if when you first drop the loops in and an overview is created that this causes the 'problem'..? (if it is a problem). Your opinion on this would be most appreciated. Ta Bj.

Hi Bj, When you listen to a surround appleloop, it will change the "prelisten" channel strip to surround. When you drag the surrond appleloop to a track, it will change this track channel strip to surround. After reverting both the track and the "prelisten" channel srips to stereo, it should be back to normal. To do so, select a stereo output in the I/O section of each Channel Strip (instead of surround) and change the little "5 speakers star" to 2 interlocked circles (at the bottom of both channel strip). This should do the trick!

Hi Christian, hehe, I did you what you explained and it works. Thanks. Something interesting I noticed is that when you switch the prelisten track from surround to stereo, the plug-in slots in the Master Track disappear and the ones on the Output 1-2 track reappear. If I change it back to surround, the slots in the Output track disappear once again, and the ones on the Master Track reappear. Pretty interesting. I did check the video and I could see there were no slots in Martin's Master Track, so I take it I'm doing it right! Thanks for the help. Can't wait to get a new video tutorial. That 301 looks interesting.
