I need help I am running Logic 9 and I have Waves plugins, Native Instruments Komplete 8 and a Virus Snow. When I open Logic now all my Waves plugins and Native Instruments soft synths have disappeared. Also when I plug my virus into my Macbook it doesn't get recognised. I have tried factory resetting and upgrading the firmware on the Virus. I haven't tried reinstalling the NI because it is massive 260GB or something. I haven't tried reinstalling Waves but the other stuff is more important. What do I do? Please help! I am running a Macbook Pro 10.8.2

Were there any changes to any thing else when this happened? I'm assuming they all worked fine at some point?

Yes everything used to work well. The only change I can think of is upgrading to Mountain Lion. I haven't installed any other software since then. Have there been any problems with OS X?

Hi Reverie, When you go into the Logic AU Manager (Logic > Preferences > Audio Units Manager) do you see the NI and Waves plugins in the list? Have you updated your Waves, NI plugins and Virus software to the latest version? It may be an incompatibility with 10.8 Also try run the Waves AU Reg Utility (Applications > Waves > Waveshells) to re-authorize your Waves plugins. I noticed this sometimes happens when you change OS system, then this needs to be run for the apps to recognize the Waves plugins.

Hey Gary, When I go to Logic > Preferences > Audio Units Manager no windows opens. Just nothing happens. I have tried reinstalling Logic and it hasn't fixed the problem. I checked and my Native Instruments and Virus software are all up to date. I also tried running the Waves AU Reg Utility. I have another hard drive running 10.7 and when booting off that drive everything works fine. So the problem is definitely something to do with 10.8. Is it possible to downgrade the OS?

Hi Reverie, Unfortunately it's not possible to downgrade the OS. Lets see if we can figure this out. I upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.8, and I didn't have any plugins problems from the upgrade. When you go to your Components folder do you see a list of plugins there? (Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Components)? If not look in the following folder: Macintosh HD > Incompatible Software. Let me know, and we can take it form there.

Hi Gary I think we are getting closer to the problem. When I go to (Macintosh HD > Library > Audio.......there is no Components folder. And what do you mean by Macintosh HD > Incompatible Software? The folders in my HD are just the standard Applications, Library, System, Users.

I don't know if this helps to find the solution but I created a new user on my computer. When I logged in using the other user I opened Logic and it scanned and found all my plugins. This fixed the problem and I was able to see all my plugins and use the virus. I suppose if we can't fix this problem I can use the other user for my sessions but I would prefer to not have to do this.

OK, we getting closer. The Incompatible Software folder is only created when it finds Incompatible Software. It then moves the items here. But don't worry this isn't the problem. We need to find where the plugins have been installed. Log back into the new user where it sees all your plugins. Go to Macintosh HD > Users > [i]yourusername[/i] > Library > Audio. Is their a Comopnents folder here? Is so go into the folder and see if it lists your plugins here. If it does, then do this, copy the Components folder and the paste it here: Macintosh HD > Library > Audio Now log into your main user, launch Logic and see if it finds the plugins.

Oh I forgot, that your User Library may be hidden in the new user. To show it to this: When in the new user go to the Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) Type this in: chflags nohidden ~/Library/ Then navigate and see if your see the Library in your user directory.
