    Re: Beat Mapping - how?
Hi folks! First post on the forum for me. What i really would like to do is go one step further with this and after creating a beat map then use this (or some other method) to quatize the audio of another player This would be fab cos very often after a recording a session (usualy not to a click) someone is out of time on one (or several) tracks. To correct this seems very difficult though beat mapping seems to offer a ray of hope! I know you can create a audio to midi grove template but that doesn't work with audio ( I dont think). Any thoughts? Is this possible?

Hi Paul - just so I understand, you would like to adjust audio clips to match a given tempo? ie, put the drummer on the beat? :)

Hi Shaun Thanks for replying! The scenario is that after recording a 'live' take with several musicians at once - a common thing - that someone (or more than one) person may be out of time with the rest of the band. So the fundamental question is can we put that right? I am thinking that I would have to beat map the whole track and then use that map in some way to 'quantize' the offending audio. if that is possible? But there may be another approach? Thanks again for taking time for my question!

Any ideas so far on this? I'm still wondering what to do.

Hey Paul. Sorry, been wound up on some other things. Is the track you want to fix up a mixdown of the players, or are they all on individual tracks?

Individual tracks (with some bleed). electronic drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, electric fiddle, electric bass, three vocals.

And are they in sync with each other and all equally 'off', or is it just one or two players that had issues?

Mainly its the drums and fiddle that are out though occasionally the bass too.

If you beat map your project it won't fix these performances, Logic will just vary it's tempo to whatever audio clip you use to do the beat map. I suggest you start with the drum track by cutting up the region around the transients that are off time and then time stretching the regions into compliance. If you're happy with the outcome, move onto the bass and see what happens.

Whew! sounds like a fiddly job! I suppose I was hoping that there was a quick fix that logic could do. The beat mapping idea was only the first stage in my idea. I thought that once you have a beat map - obtained from the 'in' time tracks - then you could somehow apply this, maybe via a MIDI region template (which I only half understand), to the 'out' regions to quatize them using the quantize engine! but I don't really understand how to do that! or indeed if it would work!
