[quote:1002]No XS Key needed!! So awesome ...
Not entirely true. If you are upgrading from Logic Pro 7 or earlier, you will need to physically insert your XSKey each and every time you (re)install in order to validate your upgrade serial number. You will therefore need to keep the XSKey somewhere safe for the lifetime of your ownership of Logic Pro 8. Personally, I think this is likely to cause problems. Since the XSKey no longer needs to be plugged in all the time, and re-installs usually occur at times of great stress(!), the odds of having misplaced the d*mn XSKey at such moments are high. Logic Express users need only keep a copy of their old serial number handy, and new users will never need a hardware key. I think Apple should offer an XSKey trade-in program, whereby they'd send you a special "upgrade path" serial number in return for the old XSKey. Without this, they are unfairly penalising the very Pro users who have invested most in the software over its lifetime. I've filed this as a suggestion to the Apple Logic team, and suggest others do so too. Apple seem to be in a fair mood at the moment, so we stand a good chance of making this happen.

I didn't need to do this ... no XSKey needed on my end for anything! But maybe my version isn't an "upgrade" ... to be aquite honest, I'm not sure ... Anybody else have any experience with this? I'm really curious now ...

This PDF document, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Logic_Studio_Installing_Your_Software_Upgrade.pdf states: "If you are upgrading a previous Logic Pro version ... connect your XSKey to one of your computer's USB ports. Important: Do not throw away your XSKey after installation - you'll need it whenever upgrading to Logic Pro 8 (or reinstalling it, if necessary)." My box arrives tomorrow morning, but that seems pretty definitive to me. Note: This only affects buyers of the $199 "Logic Studio Upgrade from Logic Pro or Platinum/Gold 5,6,7". Owners of the full $499 retail box or the $299 "Logic Studio Upgrade from Logic Express 6,7,8" will never need an XSKey since, obviously, they never had one. I suspect your copy can't be an upgrade, Martin.

I would send Apple a Christmas card if they patched L7 Pro so it no longer required the XSKey! Even a paid upgrade would be cool: "buy your USB freedom for only $49.95" :) I'm dreaming, aren't I?

    Re: XSKey jewelry
We could hang it around our necks, like jewelry. It might start a new trend! Let's see if the idea catches on at the New York and LA user groups :) What do you think? Beder
