transferring midi files from garageband iOS to MacBook pro version
I am wondering if its possible to transfer midi files from my iPhone garageband (ios13) to MacBook pro version (10.3.2). Couldn't find anywhere on youtube where it is explained. I don't want to sent the file as an mp3 etc, as I want to be able to edit those midi files on the MacBook pro version. Is this possible and if so can anyone show me how it's done? thanks folks.

Hi Spreadsheet28 - To get a GarageBand Project from iOS to Mac in editable form, you need to Share as a Project (which can be opened in GB Mac (or Logic) for further editing), not as a Song (which will bounce the Project down to an audiofile). Here's Apple's official guidance, with several methods—check out the ones that refer to transferring an (editable) GB Project: https://support.apple.com/guide/garageband-ipad/share-songs-chs39284d66/ipados The video below shows this as well—I've linked this thread to the course it's from (above).

thank you but still not working
Thank you for the reply. However....I watched the video (a few times). And still have an issue with importing the project. To be clear, I saved the original project on my iPhone GB (garageband)(with the extension .band), airdropped it to my downloads folder on my mac with no issues. But I cannot bring it into my garage band project using various method. I cannot import using the media icon on the top right side of GB. My only options under media are garage band and iTunes. Not drop down showing the downloads folder. And cannot drag and drop from the downloads folder into the track. I video did not say exactly how to import the file. it just said "open the file in GB. Any further insight on how to do this

I then tried it a different way. I closed GB on my mac. clicked on the file that I had airdropped from my phone to the mac to see if it would open automatically into GB. didn't work. When I tried to simple click on the .band file, the dowloads folder came up and now the .band file was faded meaning it couldn't be opened into the mac GB. I am baffled.

You probably tried this, but (since you didn't mention it specifically) can you just go to the Mac GB "Open" menu and manually select the .band file sitting in the Mac Downloads folder?

    1) I just tried your suggestion and it worked!. Now to figure out how to get it into another project. Also, I just realized I need to upgrade to catalina OS. wondering if that's causing an issue. Thank you!

You're welcome—glad that worked! Once the Project is open in GB Mac, you should be able to copy & paste Regions from one GB Project to another (either all at once or track by track). Re Catalina.. Just FYI, there were many issues with audio/music DAWs/plug-ins when Catalina first came out, and there still are a few lingering issues even now (I'm still on Mojave). You'll have to update applications, (audio) drivers, & plug-ins, and you'll lose access to any older 32-bit applications & plug-ins (like QT7, that many audio people still use), so be sure to do your due diligence before updating.
