I would like to know if Cubase works on a keyboard like someone would buy form Bestbuy? They on cost from $349 to $500.

Hi reg, I'm based in the UK so not familiar with the range of keyboards available at BestBuy... Can you name a couple of brands? Also, are you looking to get a Keyboard with it's own built-in sounds (synth) or a Controller (one that triggers and allows you to play instruments within Cubase)? How many keys would you ideally like (e.g. 25, 49, etc) What connection do these keyboards have? MIDI or USB? Do you have a sound card/audio interface? What connections does that have? Thanks R

Hey Rounik: I'm looking to the Latter of what you memtioned. To use keyboard to trigger sounds/instrument through cubase. I hope you know what I mean. I'm currently unemployed, and I want a Korg m3 or Kronos, however at this time I can't afford the price. Reg

Hi reg, Thanks but I'm still unclear. Hopefully this will make some sense... Some Keyboards contain onboard sounds... synth sounds, pianos, etc. You can play those and hear them when not connected to a computer. That's essentially a Synth. Most MIDI Synths can be setup to play their onboard sounds alone or through Cubase. They can usually also be used to send MIDI data (e.g. pressing "this" key, "this" hard for "this" long) - to Cubase. This can then trigger the sounds of a software based instrument hosted in Cubase. There are also dedicated MIDI Controllers. They don't make any 'sound' independently. So they transmit MIDI information but NO sound. This enables you to only trigger sounds of a software based instrument in Cubase. Which of the above two would you like? Small MIDI Controllers can be purchased which are relatively cheap... 50-100 dollars for example. HTH Rounik

Hi Reg, Yes, the Yamaha PSR-410 should work fine with Cubase. You'll need some sort of MIDI interface (to connect the Yamaha PSR-410 to your computer)... and allow it to communicate using MIDI. If you want the audio from the Yamaha PSR-410 to "pass through" Cubase, then you'll need to connect the audio outputs from the PSR-410 to your computer's audio interface/sound card.
