Hi Erik -
I tried importing Standard MIDI Files exported from Logic and Pro Tools into Live and it worked [with Live 10 on Mac via drag & drop into either the browser or directly onto a MIDI track with both single-track SMFs and a multi-track SMF]. A quick search turned up a number of references, including several that mentioned the things you tried unsuccessfully. Since you say it works with SMFs from other sources it would seem like the issue might be with Reason's exported MIDI files. I guess there are a few things you could try to test..
- If you have access to another DAW try exporting SMFs from that to see if the issue is in fact specific to SMFs from Reason or if it happens with any SMF you create yourself on that system [if not I guess you could at least try exporting a SMF from Live itself and then importing it back into a different session..?]
- If you have access to another DAW try importing the same Reason SMFs to that DAW to see if the problem follows the SMFs or is specific to Live
- If you have access to another installation of Live [on another computer perhaps] you could try importing the same Reason SMFs there to see if the issue is specific to your particular computer/Live installation or if the issue follows the Reason SMFs to another system
- If Reason gives you any options as to the type of MIDI file it exports [type 0 or type 1] maybe try it both ways -- I used type 1 [where multiple MIDI tracks in a single SMF will import as separate MIDI tracks, which they did successfully]
