Granulator II is a powerful Max for Live device included in Ableton Live Suite. This course, led by Ableton Certified Trainer Thavius Beck, will help you learn Granulator to create anything from lush soundscapes to glitchy effects, and other interesting sonic textures.
Thavius Beck is an electronic musician/producer/programmer as well as an electronic music educator who has worked with various artists ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Saul Williams to singer/songwriter Skylar Grey.
Working with granular synthesis is a bit like using a musical microscope. You can zoom in on tiny pieces of sound (grains) and play them back in creative and unexpected ways. Its like having a tiny orchestra of musical grains that you can control to create something entirely new. The Granular II Max for Live device takes the power of granular synthesis and puts it in the palm of your hand... And in this course, the very knowledgeable and always entertaining Thavius Beck will show you how to get the most of it.
Thavius begins by discussing the fundamentals of granular synthesis, from grains and grain shape to file position and spray. You learn how to use the LFO to add movement and life to your granular sounds, and how to modulate the file position with the LFO. Then, you discover the Amplitude Modulation controls and parameters, and you learn how to use the Scan parameters to play back longer segments of a sample. You also explore the GranulatorInput function and associated plug-in, as well as how to route audio to the GranulatorInput for a more creative workflow. Finally, you'll learn about Granulator II's Filter A and B and the associated Envelope controls, as well as the Amplitude Envelope. As you progress through this course, you'll gain a solid understanding of how to use Granulator II's features to create exciting and unique sounds.
Let's get granular and start making some awesome sounds! Join Thavius Beck in this course now and learn to use Granulator II!
