In this course, artist & animator Siobhan Twomey shows how to design characters specifically for animation. Follow along and learn the techniques and tools you need to know to get your designs ready to be animated!
Siobhan is a filmmaker, animator and storyboard artist. When she isn't busy with her professional projects she generously shares her knowledge through her many educational activities. We welcome Siobhan to our family of trainers!
In Siobhan's Character Design 101 course you learned about developing, sketching and rendering a basic character. In this course, she shows you how to take your character from sketch to animation-ready. So where to you begin?
As always, in her introductory section, Siobhan lists and explains all the tools and materials you'll need to follow along. She also explains where in the production process, character design actually takes place!
From there, you're whisked away into storytelling because as Siobhan explains: the story is the universe where every character dwells. You've got to know who this character is and what they're going to be doing, before you can create the poses and dynamics that dictate how this character moves!
Next, Siobhan finalizes the design in Photoshop, imports it into Flash and show's you the tools and techniques used to make characters come alive. After watching this course you will be ready to make your first character-based animations!

A good outline describing the work involved were I to create my own characters. Being a perfectionist of sorts, I will most likely in the future hire an animator instead of drawing my own.
